Abstract

256,608. Duwoos, P. A. C. Aug. 8, 1925, [Convention date]. Platen machines; inking-apparatus. - A platen machine for high-speed work is provided with an inking-apparatus having forme-inking rollers travelling continuously at uniform speed around the platen, and the platen actuation is devised so that the platen is stationary while the inking- rollers are in contact with the forme. Two sets of forme-inking rollers, L, Fig. 3, are carried by chains N driven by sprocket wheels 0 on a shaft V. which is driven continuously by gearing U, T from an intermediate shaft S driven by a chain Z, Fig. 2, from the main shaft. The inking-rollers L pass over a distributing-drum Y keyed on the shaft V and driven in the reverse direction by gearing c, b, a from the shaft S. Ink is supplied from a duct roller e to the drum Y by a swinging messenger roller h, these parts being actuated by cams g, l at opposite ends of the drum; other rollers k, m driven from the drum distribute the ink thereon. the roller m reciprocating axially. Under the platen A the inking-rollers L are guided by rails Q, R, the lower rails Q being spring-supported and engaging the ends of the roller spindles, and the upper rails R engaging discs on the spindles and being adjustable to control the contact of the inking-rollers with the forme B on the platen A. The platen is shown in Fig. 2 as arranged for vertical movement in guide-ways C; crossbars H pivoted on the platen are connected at the opposite ends to two connecting-rods D, E actuated respectively trom a crank disc F and a cam G rotated in opposite directions, the parts being proportioned to give a dwell for about one quarter of the cycle.
