Abstract

148,948. Chapelle, C. May 15, 1919, [Convention date]. Coating-machines.-A machine for applying varnish to envelopes to form translucent " windows '' therein, comprises a. receptacle e provided with a perforated bottom k above a felt pad l from which varnish is taken by a die m, preferably of copper and mounted on a shaft q which is adapted to oscillate during vertical reciprocating movements to turn the die over and deposit the varnish on an envelope placed on a table 12. Vertical movement of the shaft is produced by links u actuated by a treadle lever and by springs 6, and the turning movement is produced by threetoothed cams 9 on the shaft engaging projections 10, 11 on the machine frame. The die is kept horizontal in its extreme positions by plates 13 on the shaft g sliding between guides 14, 15, Fig. 4, the guide 14 having a gap 16 which allows the shaft and the die to turn over in the central position.
