H.) Dec. 30, 1932, No. 36943. [Class 103 (i).] Automatic wear-compensating mechanism comprises an axially-moving unit such as an hydraulic piston, comprising two members a<1>, d screw-threaded one into the other and adapted to be relatively rotated so as to extend the unit by an irreversible worm-drive f operated by a ratchet f<2> moving with the piston and co-operating with a pawl g fixed to the casing a and adapted to slip a tooth on brake application if wear has occurred, and to rotate the ratchet and extend the piston on brake release. The member a<1> is prevented from rotating by a grub screw h engaging a slot h<1>.
