Abstract
411,444. Making valves. SIEPMANN, W., 27, Mescheder Landstrasse, Warstein, Westphalia, Germany. Dec. 5, 1932, Nos. 34462 and 34463. Convention dates, Dec. 4, 1931 and Sept. 26, 1932. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Forging.-A method of making one-piece valve casings having an inner central body space and integral end flanges, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, comprises forging or pressing the casing from a hot metal billet and forming the inlet and outlet passages by drilling, the forging process being such that the fibres or natural layers of the metal run to a large extent unbroken from flange to flange and the fibres or natural layers adjacent the surfaces of the inner central body space and passageways extend substantially parallel to said surfaces, as is attempted to be shown in Fig. 4. The valve seating is simultaneously pressed into the valve casing by a mandrel, or a valve seating is formed in the forging operation. The casing is also formed with bosses to receive connecting bolts to secure the upper parts of the completed valve.
