Abstract
374,300. Making turbines; forging. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Bunker, H. G. ; 1, Vermont Avenue, Saugus, and Moss, S. A. ; 36, Sachem Street, Lynn, both in Massachusetts, U.S.A.) June 30, 1931, No. 18893. Convention date, June 30, 1930. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] In uniting a hard to a soft metal by keys these are formed on the hard metal and the soft metal is worked so as to engage around the keys. In the manufacture of an impeller for a supercharger of an internal-combustion engine a bush 1 is formed with keys 2 which are either broken at 3 or do not extend to the ends of the bush or both. An aluminium forging 4 is placed over the bush and preferably engages the keys by a flange 8. The forging 4 is then drop forged, either hot or cold, to cause the softer metal to flow and form a tight fit on the bushing. The impeller may be finished by further working or machining or both. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the keys may take the form of depressions. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
