Abstract
411,378. Bolt &c. cutters. GROVES, W. W., 30, Southampton Buildings, London.- (Porter, Inc., H. K. ; 6, Ashland Street, Everett, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) Nov. 24, 1933, No. 32917. [Class 61 (ii).] A bolt &c. cutter comprises pivoted jaws 11 and pivoted handle members 15 of usual form interconnected by members carrying ball and socket joints 19, 21 which permit the jaws to be operated in planes other than that of the handle members 15. A U-shaped member 23 having a rule joint with a jaw 11 extends outwardly and rearwardly from each jaw and a pivoted plate 31 secures to the member a shaft 29 on the end of which is the ball 19. The corresponding socket is carried by a member 34 pivoted to and angularly adjustable on one of the handle members 15. The arrangement is such that the cutting stroke forces together the balls 19 and sockets 21. When the jaws are turned out of the plane of the handle members, a projection 49 on a plate 45, rotatable with some friction about a pivot 43 on a bracket secured to the pivot pin 17 of the handle members 15, slides along a plate 53 secured to one jaw to maintain the jaws in their adjusted position.
