411,259. Fire - extinguishers. HUTCHINSON, H., 11, Golden Square, London. March 23, 1933, No. 8753. [Class 47 (ii).] An extineteur of the kind in which the acid bottle is broken by a sliding weight when the extincteur is inverted comprises a cage for the acid bottle which is designed to prevent uncombined acid from reaching the nozzle, and a guide for the weight which prevents movement thereof until the extincteur is wholly inverted or nearly so. The cage comprises a tubular member 5 formed with holes 5<a> and slots 5<b>, and a'strainer member 6 fitting in the upper end of the tubular member and having a closed bottom with a recess 6<11> for the neck of the acid bottle 4. When the bottle is broken against lugs 6<a> on the member 6, the acid escapes into the outer vessel 1 through the holes 5<a>, and the mixed solutions are forced to the nozzle 3 through the slots 5b and the strainer perforations in member 6. The weight 9 is guided on a rod 8 and has a tapered bore 10 and a recess 10<1> having shoulders adapted to engage a collar 8<1> on the rod, except when the extincteur is wholly inverted. The nozzle 3 includes a short length of flexible tube 3<1>, and handles 11, 12 are provided on the extincteur.
