Abstract

411,073. Lifting jacks. LEX, M., 61, Rue des Bains, Geneva, Switzerland. Jan. 26, 1934, No. 2774. [Class 78 (iii).] A. lifting-jack of the toggle-lever type is actuated by fluid pressure. The toggle links are in pairs pivoted together at 15 and 19 and to a ground contacting base 18 at 17. The upper extensions of the links 13, 14 are curved and pivotally connected respectively to the piston and cylinder of a hydraulic unit having an inlet nipple 5. Springs 16 about the pintles 15 tend to close the toggle links as shown in full lines. The cylinder 3 carries pins 6 which engage the extensions of the links 13, 14 and which slide in slots 10 in side plates 9 fixed by a screw 11 to a distance piece on the piston head. The plates 9 are pivoted to the links 13 by screws 8 the inner ends of which slide in guide grooves in the cylinder sides. A valve is operated to release the fluid when the jack is to be retracted. The jack may be applied to motor-cars, and one is then pivoted at 2 to a bracket 1, one of which is fixed to each longitudinal chassis frame member between the front and rear road wheels.
