Abstract

A cement is made by crushing and grinding a mixture of quick lime and Santovin earth, natural pozzuolana, or other naturally puzzolanic material, or mixtures of these puzzolanic materials, the weight of the quick lime being between 4 and 18 per cent of the puzzolanic material. Other additions which may be made are up to 2 per cent of a compound having the formula CaOClOH.7H2O, up to 5 per cent of gypsum and up to 1/2 per cent of manganese oxide, potash, soda, copper sulphate, potassium permanganate or calcium fluoride or of a mixture of two or more of these compounds. The puzzolanic material is preferably pulverized and calcined at a temperature not greater than 600 DEG C. The mixture of lime and puzzolanic material may be ground together with Portland cement clinker.
