Abstract
409,273. Corsets and girdles. MOORE CO., G. C., Westerly, Rhode Island, U.S.A. Sept. 21, 1932, No. 26256. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1931. [Class 141.] Corsets, girdles, and other garments are made from fabrics which are elastic both lengthwise and transversely and comprise elastic warps and wefts of covered vulcanized rubber and inelastic fibrous threads. The fabric may be made more contractile in the direction of the warp than in that of the weft by employing elastic warps which are thicker, more numerous, or under greater tension than the elastic wefts. A girdle may be made therefrom which has less stretch up and down the wearer's body than across it. A two-way stretch fabric may be combined by weaving with a one-way stretch fabric as shown in Fig. 1, wherein an elastic weft 7 extending only part way across the fabric is used, elastic warps 1 being used throughout the fabric, so that the fabric has parts A to B and C to D that are elastic only in one direction, and a part B to C, which is elastic in two directions. Or two-way and one-way stretch fabrics may be combined by sewing and used to make a two-way stretch girdle or corset with top and bottom one-way stretch cuff portions. Various two-way stretch fabrics are described.
