Abstract

408,820. Rolling. MURAKAMI, Y., 91, 3-Chome, Denyenchofu, Omori-Ku, Tokio. May 15, 1933, No. 14102. [Class 83 (iv).] Molten metal is delivered through the pass of rolls A of corrugated form so that each flute contains a core of molten metal surrounded by solidified metal. The slab is then guided by pivoted guide tables 2, 3 to a continuous mill where the rolls C, Figs. 1 and 6, may split the slab longitudinally and the rolls D, E and F continue the rolling. The first corrugated slab, however, may be subsequently rolled flat and thinned to sheet form without slitting. Figs. 3 and 4 show alternative pass forms for the rolls A, Fig. 4 pass being used when angle bars are subsequently required. The rolls A are covered with a mild steel, nickel chrome or other protecting metal 11 to prevent damage by the molten metal. The flanges 12 for retaining the molten metal are also of heat resisting metal. Rollers J, Fig. 2, take any end thrust on the rolls A. 9 is a water cooling chamber in the rolls A. The time in seconds which the rolls are in contact with the molten metal lies between .015 times the square of the millimeter thickness at the widest and the narrowest part of the delivered slab.
