Abstract
408,095. Making galvanic batteries. KLEINMANN, E., and MENDEL, A., (trading as KLEINMANN, GEB.), 21, Wilhelmstrasse, Lichtenberg, Berlin. March 20, 1933, Nos. 8442 and 8443. Convention dates, March 19, 1932 and Dec. 20, 1932. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] A machine for the attachment of plug sockets to zinc battery cans has means for positioning the sockets opposite the cans in correct soldering position and means for effecting soldering. Blanks transferring. The sockets are fed from a grooved casing 63 by a rotor driven from a shaft 13<a> and drop leg downwards from a shoot 14 to holders 9 on a conveyer 1. The cans are carried in pockets 10 on a conveyer 2 geared to the conveyer 1. The sockets are applied to the cans by a ram 36 and are then transferred by the cans to the conveyer 2. As the sockets emerge from the shoot 14 they are gripped by cam-operated fingers and aligned by a cam-operated slide 15 against a guide 14<a>. A device 31, Fig. 6, rotated one revolution and moved axially by cams 23 engages the legs of the socket to turn it long legs uppermost. The hole in the socket is then engaged by the ram 36 reciprocated and raised by cams to position the legs astride and to force them over the can edge. A container 44 is lowered by a cam to apply liquid flux and a soldering wire 56 is fed through a steatite or hard glass nozzle 58 and applied, to secure the socket, by an electrically heated soldering iron 49 lowered by a cam. The parts are driven from a common shaft 11. In a modification a single conveyer for the cans and the sockets is used. The sockets are fed by a toothed disc down a shoot with an escapement for liberating single sockets and an overflow for excess sockets. Cam operated clamps then hold the sockets and the cans to the conveyer until the ram 36 has operated. The sockets are then fluxed and soldered. If additional connecting wires are to be soldered to the cans a cam-operated rod pushes the socket clear of its holder. Camoperated fingers hold the can and turn it to soldering position, flux spread by a sponge and solder are applied as before. The wire applying mechanism may be duplicated.
