408,033. Conductors and insulators for dynamo-electric machines. KUYSER, J. A., Knowle Lodge, Sibson Road, Sale, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Oct. 21, 1932, No. 29514. [Class 35.] To protect the conductors of high voltage machines from corona tapering strips of highresistance material, such as asbestos, are applied to the surface of the conductor in such a way that the distances between various portions of the strip or strips are not greater than can be covered by creepage, and the strips are connected to the iron of the machine. Fig. 1 shows such a strip 3 coiled helically on the conductor 2. Fig. 2 shows a ring 4 of high resistance material encircling the conductor and provided with tapering projections 5, 6 arranged along the conductor. Such an arrangement may be combined with a strip such as shown in Fig. 1, as indicated by the line 7, or several rings with projections may be employed, the projections on successive rings being staggered. The strips may be covered with insulating tape, which may be varnished.
