Abstract

407,738. Calculating- machines. ELLIS ADDING-TYPEWRITER CO., 338, Elizabeth Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A. Sept. 29, 1932, No. 27023. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1931. Addition to 395,688. [Class 106 (i).] In a calculating-machine having two totalizers so arranged that all amounts added into one are subtracted from the other, and vice versa and wherein totals from one of the totalizers are printed in a distinctive colour, as described in the parent Specification, the colour-ribbon mechanism may be disabled without affecting the inter-connection between the totalizers. The ink ribbon 57 is normally lifted to the printing point by the rising of a bail 56 actuated by a lever 48 pivoted at 47. A link 49 depends from the lever 48 and is normally engaged by a pin 55 on an arm 52 of a bail 54 which is rocked counterclockwise at each operation of the machine. Upon the depression of the total key 20, its locking member 33 moves to the right a link 38 connected to a lever 41 pivoted at 42 and connected by springs 44, 46 to a link 45 carried by the link 49. This link is thus disengaged from the pin 55 and engaged with a second pin 51 on the arm 52, whereby, upon the rocking of the bail 54, the ink ribbon 57 is given a greater upward movement to present a different colour to the printing line. The mechanism is disabled by rocking a finger lever 58, a pin 39 on which lifts the link 38 out of the reach of the member 33.
