407,570. Coin-freed apparatus. KERR, R., 459, Smithdown Road, Wavertree, Liverpool. May 31, 1933, No. 15675. [Class 27.] Testing coins.-A coin 1 inserted through a slot 2 is turned to an horizontal position before entering a shoot 6 by an oblique member 4, the coin then sliding down the shoot till it is arrested by a stop 7 over a slot 8 in the shoot. A plunger 10 is depressed by a lever 11, the plunger having a resilient foot 21 which engages the coin and, if the latter is a soft metal disc, pushes it through the slot 8 to a return shoot 23. Genuine coins are not bent and, when the stop 7 is raised by the return of the plunger 10, slide down the shoot and pass over a partition 30. This partition is disposed to one side of the central line of the shoot so that a genuine coin tends to fall to one side of the partition and pass to the coin-freed mechanism by a shoot 33. A magnet 31 on the other side of the partition attracts iron or nickel discs, which have passed the rigidity test, so that they fall to a receptacle for such bad coins. The stop 7 is raised by a hooked spring 27 on the plunger engaging under a flange 26 on the stop which slides on rods 24. When the plunger is partly raised, a yoke 25 on the rods 24 releases the spring so that the stop 7 can drop to its coin-arresting position. A second coin is prevented from passing down the shoot 6 while the stop 7 is raised by two depending rods 29 carried by the plunger.
