[Class 27] In a combined annulus and weight-testing device for coins having a pivoted counterbalanced coin carrier and a delay action device, the delay action device is operable by inserting a coin to control means for setting the coin carrier to a particular position after a predetermined time interval without actuating a movable hinged clearing wall of preliminary testing devices. A coin inserted in a slot 3, Figs. 1 and 2, actuates a delay action lever 14 which operates as described in Specification 425,024, and passes down a stationary shoot 4 provided with a bounce test as described in Specification 487,938 from which it is delivered by a shoot 7 to the combined annulus and weight testing carrier 8. This carrier, which operates as described in Specification 471,644, has annulus gauging points 12 to co-operate with a fixed stop 13 and an adjustable counterbalance weight 11 for testing the weight of the coins. The carrier, when released, moves to position A, Fig. 1, to receive a coin, which is delivered at a reject position B, if not of proper weight and thickness, or at position C leading to the coin-freed apparatus. When a coin is inserted, the delay lever 14 releases a double-armed lever 22 which holds a locking lever 23 in position to lock the carrier 8 in the reject position B by a notch 36 engaging a pin 37 on the carrier. A cam portion 24 on lever 23 also holds a weighted lever 26 carrying the stop 13 out of the path of the gauging points. When the lever 23 is released, the carrier moves to position A and the stop 13 is moved into the path of the points 12. If owing to the coin being light in weight, the carrier 8 stops between the. positions A and B, the return of the lever 14 after a predetermined delay rotates the lever 22 to move the locking lever 23 back to its initial position by acting on a lug 33 thereon. A cam portion 35 on the lever 23 engages the pin 37 and moves the carrier to position B. If the carrier 8 has moved nearly to position C, a deflector 39 on the lever 23 engages the pin 37 and moves the carrier fully into position C, the carrier being locked in this position by a second recess 40, until another coin is inserted. A sweeper 41 pivoted to the delay lever 14 is reciprocated over the bounce platform 5 to clear this platform. The testing device is constructed as an interchangeable unit.
