Testing coins.-In a coin testing device for coin-freed apparatus of the kind wherein the coins are received by an adjustable weighted lever, which trips only when the coins have a given weight, a pivoted flap is provided which is swung over the lever to discharge light coins therefrom. A coin inserted through a, slot 6, Fig. 1, between a pivoted flap 13 controlled by a spring 12 and an arm 14 offset therefrom. rests on the arm 7 of the adjustable counterbalanced lever 3 and, if of correct weight, tilts the lever to drop to a shoot 30 leading to the release mechanism. Light coins fail to tilt the lever 3 and are discharged laterally to a shoot 20 by pressing a button 15, Fig. 2, carried by the arm 14. The shoot 30 comprises a fixed wall 18 and a pivoted flap 22 held by a spring 21 in normal position, determined by an adjustable nut on a bolt 24, which is carried by the flap 13. The coins run on a ledge 28 on the wall 18, the ledge being made narrow at the middle so that coins which are too thin fall through and are discharged. If a thin coin sticks, it is discharged by pressing the button 15 which acts on the flap 22 through the flap 13 and bolt 24. A tube 17 connected to the arm 14 holds a magnet to retain iron discs.
