Abstract
A modified rubber having reduced viscosity in solution and suitable as a paint constituent is obtained by treating rubber dry or in solution with a small proportion (up to 10 per cent) of a paint drier, such as lead, cobalt, or manganese oleate, linoleate, or resinate. The rubber and drier may be incorporated on a mill or mixer and the product subsequently thinned by the addition of solvent, or they may be heated together to produce a molten mass. The mixture may be further modified by treatment with oxygen or ozone. The product may be mixed with any of the usual paint and varnish constituents such as oils, gums, resins, waxes, metallic stearates, pigments, &c. or it may be emulsified with a solution of glue, casein, &c. to produce a water paint.ALSO:A modified rubber having reduced viscosity in solution and suitable as a paint constituent is obtained by treating rubber dry or in solution with a small proportion (up to 10 per cent) of a paint drier, such as lead, cobalt, or manganese oleate, linoleate, or resinate. The product may be mixed with any of the usual paint and varnish constituents such as oils, gums, resins, waxes, metallic stearates, pigments, &c. or it may be emulsified with a solution of glue, casein, &c. to produce a water paint.
