Abstract

Coating, printing, and oil-proofing compositions comprise formamide and an adhesive and/or oil resisting substance, e.g. casein, dried milk, cellulose acetate, glue, gelatine, starch, or rubber latex. Additional ingredients include methanol, benzene, ammonia, linseed oil, castor oil, waxes, dextrine, albumin, cumaron resin, lacquers, pigments such as carbon black, aluminium powder and aluminium bronze, ground quartz, and dyestuffs. The mixture of casein and formamide is preferably heated, with or without water, to hasten solution. The compositions are especially useful for oil-proofing paper and butter-wrappers, and for coating cardboard containers for oils. Examples describe (4) a solution in formamide of cellulose acetate and casein, (6) a clear printing composition for carbon paper consisting of formamide, cellulose acetate, casein and methanol.ALSO:Coating-compositions comprise formamide and an adhesive and/or oil-resisting substance, e.g. casein, dried milk, cellulose acetate, glue, gelatine, starch, or rubber latex. Additional ingredients include methanol, benzene, ammonia, linseed oil, castor oil, waxes, dextrine, albumin, cumaron resin, lacquers, pigments such as carbon black, aluminium powder and aluminium bronze, ground quartz, and dyestuffs. The mixture of casein and formamide is preferably heated, with or without water, to hasten solution. The compositions are especially useful for coating cardboard containers for oils. Examples describe (1) a solution of casein in formamide, (3) an aqueous solution of casein in formamide, (4) a solution in formamide of cellulose acetate and casein, (5) an aqueous formamide-casein solution mixed with rubber latex.
