406,767. Electrodeposition of metals. ADEY, G. E., The Wreken, Oaklands Road, Totteridge, London. Sept. 21, 1932, No. 26238. Drawings to Specification. [Class 41.] In an electroplating process of the type in which an anode of the metal to be deposited provided with a sheath or pad of absorbent material saturated with electrolyte is passed over the surface to be plated, the anode is connected to a source of interrupted direct current. The current supply is obtained by interruption of a continuous current supply by a rotary switch or an electromagnetic interruptor or by half-wave rectification of an alternating current supply by the use of thermionic valves or otherwise. The supply to be rectified may be drawn from the tapped secondary of a transformer, the primary of which is supplied from a rotary converter adapted to be driven from direct or alternating current mains. A variable resistance is included in the output circuit of the rectifier. The anode may be provided with a bulb or piston reservoir for supplying electrolyte under pressure and a cathode clip for attachment to the work. Several anodes may be connected in parallel for simultaneous use ; the anodes may be of the same or of different metals. The apparatus for the supply of interrupted current may be housed within one cabinet and the plating apparatus such as anodes, brushes, scrapers and vessels for electrolyte and cleaning, polishing and priming solutions in another cabinet, or the whole may be housed within a single cabinet. The unit assembly may be mounted on a trolley. The apparatus may include a rotary mop driven by flexible shafting from the motor driving the generator or by a separate motor.
