Abstract

405,774. Anti-dazzle devices for vehicle lamps. TALBOT, S. E., and TALBOT ANTI-DAZZLE CONE, Ltd., 67, Baker Street, London. Nov. 26, 1932, No. 33503. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv).] An anti-dazzle device for vehicle lamps comprises in combination a beam-constricting unit. for dividing the beam into a number of sections and restricting the angle of divergence of each section, and a front glass constructed with a central area to permit propagation of light horizontally through said area, and upper and lower prismatic areas constructed to refract downwardly the constricted beam sections which impinge on said areas. The beam-constricting unit may be of the kind described in Specification 280,385, [Class 75 (ii), Lamp chimneys &c.]. In the form shown in Fig. 2, it comprises a conical unit formed by a plurality of concentric rings 9 mounted in the vanes 10 of a spider, alternate rings being discontinued in the lower half. The innermost ring 11 is formed with a closed front 12 to which a front glass 14 is secured by means of a bolt 13 and a nut 15. The top area 16 of the front glass is formed on its rear surface with shallow inclined ribs 19, Fig. 3, and its front surface is flat and inclined forwardly in a downward direction. The bottom area 18 is formed on its rear surface with deeper vertical ribs 19 and its front surface is curved forwardly in a downward direction. The central area 17 has parallel front and rear surfaces and its rear surface is formed on the near side with a concave portion 21 and on the off side with vertical prisms 22 adapted to refract light towards the near side of the road. According to the Provisional Specification the front glass may be of the kind described in Specification 404,343.
