Abstract

405,239. Silencing gaseous currents ; mixing charge; separating impurities from gases &c. PERNIK, A., 11, Cerna U1., Prague. April 26, 1932, No. 11970. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 20, 1932]. [Class 7 (ii).] A gas regulator applicable to the inlets and exhausts of internal-combustion engines to reduce noise and to separate impurities from the gas, consists of a casing 1 provided internally with guide blades 2 arranged in a spiral curve with spaces between the blades. The normal inlet and outlet are at 3 and 4 but they may be interchanged. An outlet 5 and pocket 6 are provided for collecting impurities. The engine carburetter may be connected at 3, the device then serving to mix the charge, and a helical guide worm may be provided in the pipe 4 to lead the axial impulses in the direction of rotation. The inlet 3 may face the direction of movement on a motor vehicle. The casing 1 may be of conical or annular shape and may be provided on its surface with injector-like openings for cooling air. The spiral curve may be helical and several spirals may be nested one within another and one single blade may form a complete convolution. The device may be arranged as a group of several units operating in series or parallel and with opposite directions of rotation. Other applications to which the device is stated to be applicable are :-compressors, vacuum pumps, steam engines, funnels of locomotives, spark arresters, reservoirs, mixing-vessels, separators of oil, water, tar and of other solid, liquid or gaseous materials in a continuous stream.
