Abstract
404,398. Invalids' beds. COMPER, A., 500, North Street, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Sept. 5, 1932, No. 24710. [Class 52 (ii).] In an invalid's bed comprising a mattress having a head section 15, a foot section 16, two laterally movable hip sections 17 and means for elevating a commode 36 therebetween, means are provided for raising the end of the head section adjacent the hip sections when the latter are to be moved. When the sprocket 54 is rotated, the commode elevator 33 is raised, rollers 45 thereon causing the pivoted arms 37 and therefore also the sections 17, to swing outwardly, but a lost motion connection 39 prevents outward movement until the inner end of the head section 15 has been raised by the jack 40. When the commode has reached its position of use, the jack 40 again functions to lower the patient upon the commode, by restoring the section 15 into flush relation with the other mattress sections.
