Abstract
404,166. Aircraft. GALLEGO Y HERRERA, F., 12, Calle de Peligros, Madrid. March 14, 1933, No. 7732. Convention date, March 14, 1932. [Class 4.] A flying machine is provided with a compressor and a reservoir 1 for air compressed thereby which communicates with the leading edge of supporting planes to discharge a stream of air tangentially over the upper curved surfaces only in such a manner as to support and propel the machine. In one form, the air compressed by a screw propeller is heated by the engine M on its passage to the planes. Arcuate adjustable plates 4 direct the issuing air and control of these plates facilitates steering. The action of the plates may be combined with that of the ailerons 7. The bases of the passenger compartments are made of celluloid and the landing gear is retractable under the action of the air current set up by forward motion of the craft and released by the pilot to fall under the action of gravity on landing. Fuel tanks G are arranged as shown. In a modification, suitable for flying at high altitudes, the fuselage is set back from the leading edge of the planes. Control in this case is by the ailerons and the air after being heated by the engine is circulated through ducts 16 to prevent formation of ice on the craft. The pilots can shut off communication with the engine through passages 21 in the fuel tank by doors 17, doors 18 being then kept open, but when flying at high altitudes the doors 18 are closed, air being supplied to the cockpits by opening the doors 17. The compressor may include a series of air-screws and air contained in a reserve reservoir may be used in case of failure of the engine.
