Abstract

403,979. Attaching knobs to spindles. PYE RADIO, Ltd., Radio Works, and BUTLER, C. E. M., 31, Orchard Avenue, both in Cambridge. June 27, 1932, No. 18085. [Class 44.] An inner element such as a spindle is secured within a hole in an outer element such as an actuating knob by means of a resilient member which engages in recesses in both elements, one element being of relatively soft material and the recess therein being formed by the resilient member itself acting under its own force of restitution. The end of the spindle 1 for adjusting radio apparatus is formed with a flat a and a circumferential groove c and engages a rectangular hole in the adjusting knob 2. The side b of the hole opposite the side against which the flat a engages is formed with serrations parallel to the axis. A strip of spring steel 3 is curved from end to end and has a kink at its centre as shown. This is placed in position in the hole and the end of the spindle pressed in. The kink in the spring 3 springs into the groove c and the edges of the spring bite into the serrations in the side b of the hole, thereby preventing relative axial movement between the knob and the spindle. The spindle is prevented from turning in the hole by internal projections (not shown) formed in the knob which engage the underside of the spindle and keep the flat against the side of the hole.
