Abstract
403,742. Squirting. SCHUBARTH, E., Menden, Iserlohn, Germany. July 4, 1932, No. 18906. [Class 83 (iv).] Working at specified temperatures.-Two or more metals are extruded simultaneously to form a composite rod tube or other form, from a billet comprising concentric layers of the metals, separately preheated before assembly. A billet to be extruded may comprise metals 24, 25, 26, Fig. 5, arranged concentrically, and the outer sleeves 25, 26 bent inwards at their lower ends to conform to the entry to the die 16, Fig. 1. A sleeve portion may be formed by extrusion from a plate, by casting, or by bending the material with overlapped or abutted edges. The press may comprise heating means 27 of the electrical resistance type or a coiled pipe for the passage of hot oil. Before assembling a billet comprising zinc enclosed in aluminium the elements are separately heated to 300-350‹ C. and 400-480‹ C. respectively, for one of iron enclosed in copper both are heated to 800‹-900‹ C., and for one of copper enclosed in nickel silver both are heated to 800-900‹ C. In another example zinc and brass may be extruded. The plunger 4 has a mandrel 5 for piercing when extruding tubes, and has an outer flat rim 17 to engage the sleeve or sleeves and a central conical or otherwise curved part 8 to engage the core material.
