403,461. Hydraulic air-pumps. EKMAN, S. S., 46B, Allmõnna Võgen, Gothenburg, Sweden. July 19, 1932, No. 20393. [Class 8 (i).] Gas is transferred from a low-pressure chamber to a higher - pressure chamber in instalments by way of a sluice a corresponding amount of liquid being transferred in the opposite direction in connection with each instalment. The liquid is afterwards supplied to and withdrawn from the chambers, either or both of which may be closed to the atmosphere. Fig. 3 shows apparatus acting as a steam condenser air pump, in which the transferring device is a rotary cylinder 12 radially partitioned, the cylinder forming a seal between the spaces 1, 2. The compartments are open at top and bottom, receiving liquid from the high-pressure space and delivering it to a pipe 19 discharging into a vessel 20 which also receives the water supply overflow through a pipe 21 ; air is drawn from the condenser through a pipe 15 into the space 2 and passes into the cylinder compartments. In a modification, the cylinder may be driven by a worm and wheel, the compartments may be partly covered, and the liquid may be continuously pumped back to the high pressure space.
