Abstract

403,165. Exercising apparatus. McKENZIE, J. T., 62, Parkside Street, Rosyth, Fifeshire. July 26, 1932, No. 21045. [Class 132 (i).] Exercising-apparatus comprises a board or like supporting member, and two friction members, that is members not mounted on rollers or ball bearings, one to travel along each of the guides or rails, the friction members being arranged to be moved backwards and forwards along their guides or rails by the hands or feet and the friction to be overcome in effecting such movements controlled within a wide range by the pressure applied to the devices by the hands or feet. As shown in Fig. 6, a base 1 has two dove-tail grooves 2 in which slide members 5, Fig. 4, with dove-tail ribs 6 and depressions 7. Hinged to the base 1 is an extension 4. A band 12 is attached at one end to the post 10, passes over the roller 13 and the other end carries a handle 11. For hand exercises handles 8 with a spherical end 9 fitting into the depressions 7 of the members 5 are employed. The handle may in a modification be hinged to the base, or may be a crosspiece attached directly to the top of the vertical post or may be a rod fitted into a hole in the base. The vertical post may be dispensed with and the cross-piece attached to a strap attached to the end of the base. Graduations may be provided on the base to indicate the length of travel of the friction members.
