Abstract

The apparatus comprises a rail 12 having a knee pad 14 at one end and a slide 16 having at least one handle 20 along the rail (12). In use, a person 32 kneels on the pad 14, grasps the slide 16 and moves it backwards and forwards along the rail 12 between an initial position near the pad 14 and an end position defined by a movable stop 22. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Exercising apparatus This invention relates to exercising apparatus.
According to the invention there is provided an exercising apparatus which includes a rail having a knee pad at one end, and a shoe having at least one handle and mounted displaceably along the rail.
The rail may be in the form of an elongate metal bar, and may have a movable stop to adjust the distance which the shoe travels longitudinally along the rail. The movable stop may be in the form of a peg which co-operates with holes situated at intervals along the length of the rail.
The shoe may be in the form of a slide which is slidable along the rail.
The handle may be in the form of a handlebar mounted across the shoe and transverse to the rail.
The knee pad may be in the form of an upholstered foam rubber cushion.
The apparatus according to the invention may include a buffer arranged transversely to the rail at the knee pad end, the knee pad having pockets accommodating the ends of the buffer.
The invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings in which Figure 1 is a side view of a exercising apparatus according to the invention in use.
Figure 2 is a plane view of an exercising apparatus according to the invention.
In the drawings, reference numeral 10 generally, indicates an exercising apparatus according to the invention. The apparatus 10 includes a rail 12 having a knee pad 14 at one end and a shoe in the form of a slide 16 having a handle 20. The shoe 16 is mounted slidably on the rail 12 which is in the form of an elongate metal bar.
The knee pad 14 is in the form of an upholstered foam rubber cushion.
The shoe 16 includes a base plate 18 slidably mounted on the rail 12, the handle 20 in the form of a handlebar mounted across the baseplate 18 and transversely to the rail 12. The baseplate 18 has depending flanges 18.1 on either side of the rail to act as a guideforthe shoe 16 on the rail 12.
The apparatus 10 is provided with a movable stop 22, which is in the form of a spring pin 24 which cooperates with holes 26 situated at intervals along the length of the rail 12.
By adjusting the position of the movable stop 22 on the rail 12, the distance which the slide 16 travels longitudinally along the rail 12 can be adjusted.
A buffer 30 is provided in the form of a metal bar mounted transversely to the rail in front of and near to the knee pad 14. The knee pad 14 is provided with pockets 14.1 adapted to receive the ends 30.1 of the buffer 30 so as to locate the knee pad 14 in position at the end of the rail 12. The buffer 30 may be welded to the rail 12 or it may be slidably received through a passage (not shown) provided in the rail 12.
Referring now to Figure 1 of the drawings, the exercising apparatus 10 is shown in use buy a person 32. The exercising apparatus 10 is used by the person kneeling on the knee pad 14 in a starting kneeling position 32.1 and holding the handlebars 20. He then pushes the slide 16 until it abuts the movable stop 22, he being then in an extended position 32.2. The person 32 then pulls the slide 16 back thus returning to the starting position 32.1. The degree of extension during the exercise may be adjusted by adjusting the position of the stop 22.
The applicant believes that if the exercise is repeated in regular sessions, use of the exercising apparatus 10 will exercise the stomach muscles of the user. As the fitness of the user improves, the user may increase the distance which the slide travels along the rail to render the exercise more difficult.
1. An exercising apparatus which includes a rail having a knee pad at one end, and a shoe having at least one handle and mounted displaceably along the rail.
2. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein the rail is in the form of an elongate metal bar.
3. An apparatus as claimed in claim 2 wherein the rail is provided with a movable stop to adjust the distance which the shoe travels longitudinally along the rail.
4. An apparatus as claimed in claim 3 wherein the movable stop is in the form of a peg which cooperates with holes situated at intervals along the length of the rail.
5. An apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the shoe is in the form of a slide which is slidable along the rail.
6. An apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the handle is in the form of a handlebar mounted across the shoe and transverse to the rail.
