Abstract

402,835. Directive wireless signalling. FEDERAL TELEGRAPH CO., 200, Mount Pleasant Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A. -(Assignees of Kruesi, G. G. ; 230, East 51st Street, New York, U.S.A.) June 11, 1932, No. 16571. Convention date, July 29, 1931. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (v).] In a short-wave long range directive system, a radiating source at the focus of a reflector is so positioned above a horizontal reflecting surface such as the earth, that the main radiation occurs at the optimum angle with the horizontal and radiation reflected from the horizontal surface and parallel to the main beam is in phase therewith. Thus for vertically polarized waves the radiator is placed at a distance #/2 sin alpha or any multiple thereof above the earth and for horizontally polarized waves a distance #/4 sin alpha or any odd multiple thereof where alpha is the angle the beam makes with the horizontal. The system is also suitable for reception.
