402,693. Heating gases. LODGECOTTRELL, Ltd., George Street, Parade, Birmingham.-(Metallges. Akt.-Ges. ; 45, Bockenheimer Anlage, Frankfort-on-Main, Germany.) June 27, 1933, No. 18302. [Class 64 (i).] A combined heat-exchanger and centrifugal dust extractor particularly for preheating air for combustion by, and separating dust from, flue gas comprises heat-exchange tubes 2 extending through a cold air duct 8 between a flue 1 and a dust-collecting main 3 and having coaxial gas return tubes 4 connected to an outlet flue 5. A whirling motion is imparted to the gas entering the tubes 2 by baffles 7 disposed between the tubes 2, 4. In place of air, boiler feed water may be heated in the duct 8.
