[Class 79 (i).] In the annular-track rail wheel described in the parent Specification, in which the vehicle frame h is supported on wheels d running on the interior surfaces of annular wheels 5 formed with rail-engaging treads, the guiding wheels 5 are mounted on a rigid axle c which has no direct metallic connection with the vehicle frame. The wheels d have pneumatic tyres 4 and are connected by an axle e which may be a driving axle. The frame h is formed as a girder with members above and below the axles and is supported on the driving axle e by springs f mounted on bearings g on the axle. A limited amount of horizontal and vertical movement between the wheels d and 5 is permitted by the tyres 4. If the tyres collapse excessive relative movement between the wheels is prevented by three sets of stops or guides : (1) vertical movement is limited by the bearings g on the axle e resting on stops n on the axle c, (2) lateral movement is limited by surfaces k on the wheels d bearing against surfaces m on the wheels 5, and (3) longitudinal movement is prevented by guides o enclosing the axle c. The stops may be formed of sound-damping material such as rubber. The vehicle is braked by brakes acting on the wheels 5 or on drums secured thereto.
