Abstract

402,195. Wheel tyres. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO., 1144, East Market Street, Akron, Ohio, U.S.A. Aug. 3, 1932, No. 21832. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1931. [Class 144 (ii).] An inner tube or a tread member for pneumatic tyres is made by extruding simultaneously two semicircular halves 12, 14 of different grades of rubber and joining them at the points 16 in the common outlet die of the extrusion machine. The part 14 of the air-tube may be of an abrasion-resisting nature to prevent damage by the wheel-rim. An outer cover with tread and sidewall portions of different grades is made by extruding two semi-circular portions 24, 26 of different grades and then slitting the portion 26 midway by means of the knife 28. The two portions may be unequal and they may be connected by skived lap joints instead of buttjoints.
