Abstract

1277642 Retreading tyres W SCHELKMANN 7 July 1969 [8 July 1968] 34155/69 Heading B7C A prevulcanized tyre tread strip 2 is bonded to a tyre carcass 1 by interposing a layer of vulcanizable rubber bonding agent 3 between the strip and carcass, discharging the gaseous inclusions either by vacuum or by rolling on the tread strip, sealing the axially outer edges 5 of bonding agent layer by, for example, vulcanizing the edges 5 using a heating ring 6, and finally heating the assembly in a pressure vessel to effect complete vulcanization. Alternative methods of sealing the edges 5 are the application of a hardening heat resistant material and the use of an annular ring whose edges are bonded to the tread strip and the carcass.
