Abstract

402,028. Printing cheques &c. WATERLOW & SONS, Ltd. and CLIFFORD, S. G., 26, Great Winchester Street, London. Aug. 9, 1933, No. 22286. [Class 16.] A protective background is applied to a document, such as a cheque, bond, bill, note, or share warrant, by applying a pattern to one part thereof in a first printing operation employing two or more bands of colours, and then in a second operation applying a second pattern to another part of the document, the two printings being in close register in such a way that a substantially continuous pattern is formed with the bands of colour discontinuous. Fig. 1 represents the first pattern printed in three bands of colours such as blue, red, and blue, the colours being merged into each other to produce a rainbow effect at a-a and b-b, and Fig. 2 represents the second pattern printed in three bands of colours such as green, purple, and green, also merged into each other at c-c and d-d. The two patterns when superimposed meet together in close register, whilst the bands of colour are discontinuous. The pattern, with the exception of the parts 2, may consist of numerous fine lines and characters ; the parts 2 are stippled with an appropriate colour to constitute a background for a portrait &c. If desired more than two printing operations may be employed.
