477,848. Colour filters. STAPLE DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd. July 6, 1936, No. 18719. Convention date, June 17. [Class 97 (i)] Filters for use in colour photography, colour kinematography, and photo-mechanical printing processes consist of a gelatin layer dyed with tartrazine and one or more layers dyed with other dyes applied to one or both faces of the tartrazine dyed layer. Examples are given of filters (1) for red, consisting of a tartrazine dyed gelatin layer which may be hardened with chrome alum, coated on one or both sides with gelatin dyed with phenosaffranin and rhodamine B ; (2) for green, consisting of the tartrazine dyed layer under (1) coated with gelatin dyed with toluidine blue and (3) for purple, as under (2) using crystal violet and methylene blue in place of toluidine blue. The tartrazine dyed layer may be used alone as a yellow filter. It is stated that silver emulsion layers exposed under these filters show a difference of grain according to the colour of the filter used.
