Abstract
401,791. Valve circuits for wireless reception. THISTLETHWAITE, F., 19, Durham Terrace, Bradford, Yorkshire. June 24, 1932, No. 17835. [Class 40 (v).] In a super-regenerative receiver, the quenching frequency is modulated on the carrier wave and used to actuate a relay. The oscillating detector VI is quenched by the oscillations of an oscillator V2 introduced into the grid circuit of valve V1, so that a received carrier wave is modulated by the oscillator V2, and after amplification by valves V3, V4 is rectified at R, the resulting current causing a relay R1 to operate a calling signal lamp S. A switch A allows the earphones P to replace the rectifier R and lamp S. A variable resistance B across a low frequency inter-valve transformer acts as a volume control and also bypasses the note due to the quenching oscillator V2. This resistance is thrown out of circuit when the relay is operative. A rectifier R2 across the signal lamp prevents arcing at the relay contacts. A low pass filter L prevents the relay being actuated by atmospherics. The quenching frequency may be developed by the valve VI.
