[Class 39 (ii).] In lampholder fittings for tubular electric incandescent lamps for illuminated signs current is supplied to the lamps by conductors 5, Figs. 2 and 4 which are either moulded into a rigid batten of insulating material such as ebonite or synthetic resin, or laid or embedded between, separate lengths 1, 1a, Fig. 1, of the insulating material made in box or strip form and screwed or otherwise fixed together, the lamp sockets 6 being attached to the composite batten by screws 10 which are connected to the respective insulated conducting strips 5 by short lengths of wire 14 sunk into the insulating material and covered by a mastic stopping. One end of each wire connector 14 is held beneath the head of a screw 10, while the other end is secured to a conducting strip 5 by a screw 16. A metal reflector 3 may be secured behind the tubular lamp 8 by screws 2 which also secure the insulating strips 1, 1a together. The lamp sockets 6 are made of insulating material with an inner metal member 12 into which the screw 10 is screwed, a single contact plunger within the member 12 being controlled by a helical spring 13. A series of lamps may be mounted in a line upon a long composite strip, with one end of each lamp in contact with a spring plunger and its other end against the rigid socket of the adjacent plunger, or each socket may be modified to contain two oppositely directed plungers. Split pins 18 are provided to plug the device on to the supply mains. The conducting strips 5 are preferably cut shorter than the insulating strips 1, 1a to enable their ends to be insulated by a mastic stopping 17, Fig. 2.
