Abstract

401,319. Wireless receiving-apparatus. COLLE, V. G. V,. and WARD & GOLDSTONE, Ltd., Frederick Road, Pendleton, Manchester. May 5, 1932, No. 12980. [Class 40 (v).] An intermediate frequency transformer for superheterodyne receivers comprises coils d, e wound on bobbins movable on a cylinder b graduated to show the extent of coupling, either or both of the coils carrying on the side farthest from the other, a compression type variable condenser f, which may be connected across it to tune it, the distance between the condenser plates being adjustable by a screw g. Fine adjustment of either of the screws g after assembly is obtained by rotation of the corresponding gear spindle m, geared to a sector h which is engaged by a lug j connected to the corresponding screw g. Initial adjustment of the condensers is effected by means of the screws g prior to their fixation to the lugs h. The screws g, sectors h and spindles m may be of insulating material. The unit is mounted on a base a and is covered by a screening can c, the coils d, e being locked in any position on the support b by any convenient means, and the heads m<1> of the spindles m being arranged to project from the cam. When the primary of the transformer is untuned, its condenser may be used for some other purpose such as coupling to an oscillator circuit.
