Abstract
400,532. Burnishing by compression. RYSER, E., 7, Rue Hubner, Mulhouse, Haut - Rhin, France. April 25, 1933, No. 12080. Convention date, May 2, 1932. [Class 60.] Metal surfaces are finished after trueing- up, by non-cutting tools having a speed of trans. lation which is very considerable with respect to the speed of rotation, a tool rotating for example, through 1/5 to 1/3 of a revolution while performing one longitudinal movement through a cylinder. A high superficial temper is stated to be obtained especially with the use of petrol or soapy water as coolant. A tool especially for internal combustion engine cylinders comprises elements c of hard material such as tungsten steel, or other hard steel the elements c being mounted in holders d adjustable by cones g, h bearing on rods e. For flat surfaces, a tool comprises a disc having non-cutting bars mounted in the plane surface thereof, which is reciprocated perpendicular to its axis of rotation, the rotary movement being continuous or comprising part only of a revolution.
