[Class 60] A device for honing razor blades comprises a hollow glass cylinder 1, the internal surface of which serves as the hone, one end of the cylinder being closed and bored to receive a bolt 2. The blades are carried by a three-legged spider 3, made of rubber, glass, earthenware, synthetic resin, &c., each leg carrying a blade holder 3a having a convex outer surface provided with spigots 3b to engage the holes in a blade, and having an inner tapered surface. The tapered surfaces are engaged by tapered surfaces of a hexagonal member 4, drawn up to expand the holders 3a, by nuts 5, 6 on the bolt 2 ; the nuts also serve to rotate the spider to sharpen the blade. In a modification, the blade holders 7 are separate and at their inner ends engage a dished metal disc 9, Fig. 3, which may have openings to receive projections 7a on the holders 7, and the inner tapered faces of the holders 7 engage grooves in a hexagonal member 8, which is drawn up by a T-headed bolt 10 and nut 11, and has projecting handles 8a for rotating or oscillating the blade support. In a further modification, the blade support is in the form of a cylinder with a tapered bore to receive a conical expander, and slots may be formed in the cylinder to facilitate expansion. For honing a single blade, dummy blades may be mounted on two of the holders, or rollers may be substituted for two of the holders.
