Abstract
399,973. Mercury-vapour rectifiers. ALLM€NNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET, Võsteras, Sweden. Sept. 20, 1932, No. 26127. Convention date. Sept. 21, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] A rectifier having a metallic container 8, Fig. 2, is provided with an insulator 13 which bears against the anode 1, is thermally insulated from the leading-in insulator 12, and is in direct or indirect contact or nearly so with the insulator 12 to screen the anode leading-in bolt 2 from the space around the anode. The mercury joint between the bolt 2 and the insulator 12 comprises a spring-pressed gland 6 and packing 7. The bolt is provided with a heat radiator 10. The insulator 13 may be separated from the insulator 12 by asbestos placed along a plane, conical or a spherical surface, or by a thin metal sleeve 14 which may support the anode shield 11. In a modification, the insulator 13, Fig. 3, may carry the sleeve 14 and may be pressed against the anode by a spring 17. The anode shield is secured to the insulator 13 or to the sleeve 14. The short distance between the packing 7 and the collar 16 eliminates thermal stresses in the insulator 12. The sleeve 14 may be omitted, the insulators interengaging one with the other. In further modifications,'the insulator 13, Fig. 4, may be separated from the shield 11 by an appropriate clearance, or it may carry a screen 14 which prevents condensate from a collar 15 dripping on to the anode.
