[Class 132 (ii).] In a machine for stringing a tennis or like racket, for example, as described in Specification 332,920, [Class 132 (ii), Games], the racket is held by a plurality of adjustable clamps which engage both faces of the racket frame and are each provided with an abutment located outside and adjustable in a direction towards the edge of the frame. The racket b is positioned on the rotatable head a of the machine by -engagement with a fixed pin z, and fixed by a handle clamp y, the jaws of which are moved respectively by right- and left-handed threads on a screw y<1>, and clamps c adjustably positioned on brackets e of the head a. Each clamp c comprises a two-part frame i and cheek plates i<1>, Figs. 3, 4, in which are journalled screws j carrying both right- and left-handed threads as shown. The clamp jaws n, provided with detachable faces p conforming to the profile of the racket to be strung, are mounted as nuts on the screws j and are opened or closed by rotation of a head o rigid with a spindle m carrying a pinion l meshing with pinions k on the screws j. The frame i also carries a nut s screwed on a stem r rigid with cheek plates t connected at their other end by an abutment q, rotation of the nut s adjusting the abutment against the racket edge. The cheeks t are slotted at u to house a guide pin v extending between the cheek plates i<1>. Each clamp c is secured to a bracket e by a wing nut h and friction washers to on the spindle g, which may be located in any of the slots f in the bracket. Two or three clamps may be used on each bracket and the head a is also provided with adjustable bars x forming further lateral abutments for the racket frame.
