Abstract
507,808. Tennis and like rackets. JARDOT, M. P. July 8, 1938, No. 20282. Convention date, July 9, 1937. [Class 132 (ii)] Relates to string tensioning devices in which the strings are connected to strips guided in grooves in the periphery of the frame and moved by a right- and left-handed screw device located in the heart of the racket, and consists in arranging the grooves in the central plane of the racket, the edges of the strip engaging the bottom of the grooves which are curved in arcs of circles. Two rigid bands or strips 1, 2 preferably of light metal are housed in grooves 14, 14<1> in the racket frame the inner surfaces being circular and struck with a centre at X or X<1>. They are shown in connection with a diagonally strung racket and are provided with perforations 3, 4, 5, &c. through which the gut is passed. Pulling guides 7, 8 are pivotally mounted on pins 15, 16 on the strips and are threaded to receive a right- and left-handed screw 13. When a spanner is placed at 9 and the screw turned clockwise, the strips are drawn towards one another and the strings tensioned. By spacing the holes in the strips suitably different string pairs may have different tensions. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification in which the strips bear at their lower ends only against the inner surface of the grooves which inner surface is reinforced by a metal plate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
