Abstract
353,706. Surgical bone-drills. LOTH, M., 12, Westerstraat, Utrecht, Holland. July 29, 1930, No. 22817. [Class 81 (ii).] A portable drilling device, adapted to be either hand- or power-driven and particularly adapted for the treatment of fractured bones, is provided with a member for guiding the pin or wire which constitutes the drill, the guide being mounted in bearings secured to the drill in such a way that it can slide freely longitudinally of the drill spindle as the drill t penetrates the bone. In Fig. 1 the drill sleeve c carrying a chuck d is driven from a handle g through bevel gearing f<1>, e. A bow h secured to the drill frame by a screw i is fitted with a forward plate k and a rear plate p, these plates being connected together by four sleeves o which serve as guides for rods q secured to the sliding guide plate r. The plate k is provided with a guide sleeve m and the guide r with a guide hole s. In a modification, Fig. 4, the drill is driven by a motor a<1> whose casing is fitted with a level w<1> to enable the correct alignment of the drill to be maintained. A front plate p<1>, secured to the casing by a nut l<1>, carries the guide tubes o<1> which are mounted in the casing and which accommodate the rods q of the sliding guide r.
