Abstract

399,390. Respirators. SAINT RAPT, J. DE, 86, Avenue Jean-Jaures, and DECOMBE, G., 15, Rue Emile-Zola, both in Lyons, France. Feb. 24, 1933, Nos. 5739 and 5740. Convention dates, Feb. 25, 1932 and Sept. 3, 1932. [Class 81 (ii).] A respirator mask y is provided, in the region near the cheek, with a valve which, while preventing the entrance of noxious gases, permits the introduction of a tube i through which the wearer may absorb liquid, semi-liquid, or gaseous nutrients. The valve a comprises two rubber discs having central perforations smaller than the tube i and three or more intermediate discs each having a slit in the form of a large arc or a chord passing close to but not through the centres of the discs, the slits being arranged in angular symmetry. The discs are held, by a screw-ring f and washer f<1>, in a mount e secured to the mask by a screw-ring 3 and washer 2. The tube i carries a rubber tube j to which is secured a stiff tube v carrying a valve i having longitudinal slits u normally closed. To absorb nutrient the tube v is immersed in for example liquid in a bottle on the bottom of which the valve t is pressed to open the slits and permit induction. Alternatively the valve t may be mounted directly on the tube i, tubes j, v being dispensed with. The tube i is normally closed as by a pinch cock and the valve a covered when not in use by a rubber cap furnished with a press stud and carried by a flap secured to the mask.
