Abstract
398,927. Heat-storing apparatus. DOUGLAS, A. A. H., Allt-Nan-Ros, Onich, Inverness-shire. April 5, 1932, No. 9763. [Class 64 (ii).] A heat-storing apparatus comprises an assembly of sealed tubes containing a substance with a high latent heat of fusion which is melted by passing a hot liquid through the spaces between the tubes, and the latent heat absorbed is thereafter transmitted to a colder liquid. The tubes 2 are arranged vertically in a tank 1 fitted with electric heaters 3. Water admitted to the lower part 8 of the tank is heated and rises between the tubes and melts their contents ; during this stage the water may circulate through a byepass connection 6. After melting, cold water is supplied from an external source 9 and is heated during solidification of the storage material. Paraffin, stearin, stearic acid, naphthalene, beeswax, iron or magnesium sulphate, and sodium thiosulphate may be used.
