398,368. Charging batteries. PETER, L. H. and WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SAXBY SIGNAL CO., Ltd., 82, York Road, King's Cross, London. Nov. 23, 1932, No. 33166. [Class 38 (iv).] A self-contained unit for charging car batteries in situ from A.C. mains in a garage comprises a transformer 8, and a full wave dry rectifier 11 connected through a fuse 19 to a flexible D.C. lead 17 and to the A.C. supply, the unit being mounted on a baseplate 1 secured by lugs 3 to a wall of the garage and having a detachable cover 5 secured to the base 1 by a central stud 6. The flexible D.C. lead 17 terminates in a sleeve and core-type plug 20 which, during charging, is inserted in a jack 23 on the dashboard or other suitable part of the car so connected that the charging current passes through the car ammeter but not through the automatic cut-out device thereon. The transformer 8 may be tapped and may be provided with a shunt leakage flux path to provide inherent-regulation.
