Abstract
398,315. Guards for steering pivots of motor vehicles. STEVENS, H. D. and STEVENS, A., 20, Cleveland Road, Stoke, Coventry. June 25, 1932, No. 17969. [Class 79 (v).] A guard for protecting each steering pivot d from mud &c. comprises a shield a which is carried by or formed as part of the cover plate b of the brake drum c and projects outwardly therefrom to enclose the pivot and its immediate connections with sufficient clearance to permit of the steering movements of the pivot &c. In the construction shown the guard a is detachably connected to the plate b and is made of sheet metal bent around pins g, g<1>, g<2> carried by the plate, one end a<1> of the guard being hooked over the pin g and the other end a<2> being held in place by a spring i detachably connected to the end a<2>. The guard is formed with an indiarubber or other flexible bead e bearing against the plate b. A part o of the guard is hinged to the main part to provide access to greasing points of the steering pivot. In a modification the guard is clamped by a screw around a flange which forms part of the edge of the cover plate b and extends over the brake drum c.
