[Class 37.] A variable wire-wound resistance for use in electrical measuring apparatus is so graded that the logarithm of the ratio.of the resistance on either side of the contact point of a moving contact member is proportional to the distance of the contact member from one end of its travel. The resistance has particular application to bridge networks for the measurement of resistance, inductance, or capacity, in which a logarithmic scale is desired. The resistance element is constructed by winding resistance wire round, or to and fro. across a suitably shaped former.
